Following a recent charity match in Brazil, Santos star Neymar Júnior broke his silence regarding widespread speculation about his potential participation in the Club World Cup that commenced last week in the United States.
"I've been in discussions with a few teams about playing in the World Cup," the attacker revealed in an interview with Flow Podcast. He added, "Fluminense was very close to happening, but I chose to stay and train a bit more. I'm 100% physically, but I need to be even better to return in top form." His comments suggest a deliberate choice to prioritize his recovery and fitness over an immediate return to competitive play with another club for the tournament.
The 33-year-old Brazilian icon also took the opportunity to address the frequent criticisms leveled against him concerning his off-field activities. "People have a certain image of me as a player," Neymar explained. "Everyone thinks the parties I attended, the carnivals I went to, were happening every day, all the time. But that wasn't the case; it was only when I had the opportunity to do these things, on my day off, on vacation..." He aimed to clarify the perception of his lifestyle, emphasizing that his social engagements typically occurred during his downtime.
Despite the recent health setbacks and public scrutiny, Neymar still possesses a significant opportunity to reignite his illustrious career. At 33, he maintains an excellent physical condition, a testament to his dedication to training. His career highlights speak volumes: a Copa Libertadores title with Santos, multiple Ligue 1 titles with PSG, and a UEFA Champions League trophy with Barcelona, not to mention numerous individual accolades and a prolific goal-scoring record for both club and country. With his undeniable talent and renewed focus on fitness, the football world will be watching closely to see if Neymar can once again dominate the pitch and add more chapters to his storied legacy.
