In the dynamic transfer market, news has shaken the foundations of Anfield: Liverpool has emphatically rejected an offer of €67.5 million from Bayern Munich for the services of their Colombian star, Luis Díaz. According to reports from The Athletic, the Bavarian club's proposal was immediately and automatically turned down by the English club, who informed Bayern that their player is not for sale.
Liverpool's stance is firm and backed by an astronomical valuation of the player. The Reds value Luis Díaz at no less than £100 million, which translates to approximately €115 million. A figure that, for most clubs, makes his signing little short of a pipe dream.
Despite Liverpool's inflexibility, FC Barcelona remains very interested in acquiring Díaz's services. For the Catalan club, the operation is extraordinarily complex due to the English side's high financial demands. However, Barça has a significant card up its sleeve: the player's own will.
Luis Díaz, who arrived at Anfield in January 2022 from Porto, has expressed to the Red hierarchy his desire for a change of scenery after three and a half years at the club. His current contract is in its final two years, and contrary to expectations, there have been no moves to extend it. This contractual situation and the player's yearning are Barcelona's main leverage in trying to persuade Liverpool, despite the enormous difference in valuations.
Barcelona considers Luis Díaz their "Plan A" and is not giving up, especially knowing that Liverpool might need funds if they advance their interest in Real Madrid's Rodrygo, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. Nevertheless, Bayern Munich's appearance with such a strong offer highlights the difficulty of the bidding war for the Culés. The historic transaction of Luis Suárez to Barcelona in 2014 for €82 million demonstrates Liverpool's ability to negotiate at very high prices.
Luis Díaz's situation is shaping up to be one of the summer's sagas. With Bayern out of the picture due to Liverpool's refusal, and Barcelona clinging to the player's desire, the coming days will be key in defining the future of the Colombian "Panther" in European football.
