Modric to the rescue! Modric gives Real Madrid the 1-0 win against Sevilla
Luka Modric scores a screamer to give Real Madrid another three points in La Liga.
Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu thanks to a Luka Modric goal in the second half. Real Madrid struggled to score past Sevilla until the arrival of Luka Modric in the 75th minute. Real Madrid is still the La Liga leader and has extended the gap between them and FC Barcelona to 8 points; meanwhile, Sevilla is still 15th in La Liga with 24 points.
In the 8th minute, Sevilla was close to opening the score when Ocampos slid the ball to Romero and squared it to En-Nesyri at the far post. The Morrocan striker sends the shot wide. Real Madrid thought they opened the scoreboard when Lucas Vazquez scored. Vinicius sends a cross to Vazquez at the edge of the box. Vazquez controlled the ball and took a great shot that went into the far bottom corner. VAR took a while to check the goal, and then they disallowed it.
There was a foul in the build-up as Nacho fouled En-Nesyri, which caused the goal to be disallowed. Nacho did not touch the ball but instead hit the Moroccan. Carlo Ancelotti was furious with the referee and even received a yellow card for the complaints. Real Madrid had more opportunities in the first half. Vinicius took a shot that went wide and Valverde took a long shot that was saved by Sevilla keeper Nyland.
In the second half, Valverde was close again when he met the ball at the near post and directed the ball against the bottom of the woodwork. Real Madrid's Lunin made a great save when Sevilla came close in the 52nd minute. Romero poked the ball with a first-time shot on goal. Vinicius was close to scoring a great goal as he curled the ball towards the far post, but Nyland made a great save.

Luka Modric replaced Nacho in the 75th minute, and it would be vital for Real Madrid to get three points. Valverde tries a cross in the box, but Sevilla clears it away. Bade's clearance goes to Modric, who takes the ball around Soumare with his first touch and rifles a powerful shot past Nyland that goes into the bottom right. Real Madrid won a tough game and remained at the top of La Liga with a good point gap, thanks to Modric.
