There has been a controversial debate these couple of days as Kylian Mbappé said that winning the EUROS is more difficult than winning the World Cup. Some agree since the level in Europe is high, while others disagree as the World Cup includes other competitive countries. Mbappé has never won the EUROS, but he has won the World Cup in the past, which makes sense in his argument. Some football stars reacted to the Mbappé statement, and now Lionel Messi has given his opinion on the comparison between the EUROS and the World Cup. In an interview with ESPN, Messi said, “Mbappe said that the EUROs are more difficult than the World Cup? He also said that the South American teams didn’t have the same high competition as the Europeans. Everyone values what they play. The EURO’s is very important, but it leaves out Argentina, 3x World Champion, Brazil, 5x World Champion, Uruguay, 2x World Champion. There are many world champions left out to say that the EUROS is the most difficult, right? In the World Cup, the best teams are there, all the world champions are there. That’s why everyone wants to be World Champion.”

Messi and Argentina defeated Mbappé's France in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after an epic 3-3 draw that led to a penalty shootout, in which Argentina won 4-2. Mbappé would’ve won two World Cups in a row and has played two World Cup finals in his first World Cups. He didn’t reach his first EUROS with the French national team in 2021, as they were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Switzerland on penalties.

Mbappé spoke about the EUROS as he said, “I really want to win the EUROs, it’s my first competition as captain so it’s really important for me. I have won the World Cup, the Nations League. I’m missing the EURO.”

Mbappé claims EURO 2024 to be his first EURO with France
