Manchester City didn't expect they would be dealing with transfer stress so soon about Erling Haaland after only joining the Premier League champions last season.

German international İlkay Gundogan walked out of the club for free to join Barcelona at the end of last season, following an unforgettable campaign where they won the European treble, which included the long-awaited UEFA Champions League.

That has set an unwanted precedent for City's ambitions of becoming a major powerhouse in world football and sit in the same table as other top European teams such as Real Madrid, the team currently after the 23-year-old's signature.

The exit clause in his contract is further proof that the Norway international is not prepared to close the door on the "dream move" and join the next generation of Galacticos at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The clause, however, can only be triggered by teams from outside England which is a concern for Etihad because Barcelona is also another team admired by the Viking.

His agent's comments suggested that he would not hesitate to move to the Spanish capital if Real came knocking.

And now he has even purchased a house in Spain which is worrying the people at Ashton New Road in Manchester.

Pedigree is still a thing

Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu are considered by many aspiring footballers as the dream arena to play in and it seems like that little child inside still exists within even global superstars like Haaland and former team-mate Gundogan.

Man City's Etihad Stadium is not quite there yet and this might tempt the 23-year-old to pursue his dream of playing in front of that unforgettable atmosphere.

There's also the added attraction of playing with the next generation of global stars such as Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Brahim Díaz, Arda Güler, Nico Paz, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

And what about following in the footsteps of icons Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane.
