Liverpool fans are not ready to experience next season since they are scared to see what their club will look like. The club will have many changes, from the manager to the sporting directors. Liverpool not only announced Klopp was leaving the club. Klopp's coaching staff, which included Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, and Vitor Matos, left their roles at the end of the season. Liverpool also announced that Jorg Schmadtke will leave his role as sporting director this January. Liverpool are looking to bring in a new sporting director before bringing in a new manager. Liverpool wanted to reappoint their former sporting director, Michael Edwards.

Michael Edwards left the club in May 2022 after spending 11 years with Liverpool. He was offered a new role to return to the club since he successfully made important signings for the club during Klopp's time there. According to many reliable sources like Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, Liverpool’s former sporting director has turned down a return to Anfield. Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group [FSG], called Edwards to float the idea of rejoining in a senior role, overseeing the Liverpool rebuild, but rejected the offer, making it clear he will not come back.

Who did Michael Edwards help Liverpool sign during his time with the club?

Micheal Edwards was responsible for the signing of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane, and Alisson Becker. These four players are legends of the club. The Van Dijk and Alisson signing was expensive but happened while selling Philippe Coutinho for 142 million euros to FC Barcelona. Edwards was a smart man at managing money on transfers, and this formula allowed Liverpool not to overspend and not to deal with breaching FFP rules. He helped Liverpool sign new important players like Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.
