Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Luis Díaz is a vital part of his attacking plans. Despite missing the recent Carabao Cup quarter-final, the Colombian winger remains a firm favorite in the Dutchman's plans.

When asked about his options for the center-forward position, Slot highlighted Díaz alongside Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota. "The positive thing is that a week ago, it was said that Darwin didn't have any numbers, but then he gives an assist and scores a goal," Slot said. "Jota came on as a midfielder, but he's also a 9. Lucho [Díaz] can definitely play in that position and he did well for us."

Slot Confirms Díaz as a Pivotal Figure in Liverpool's Attack

Slot's decision to deploy Díaz as a center-forward is influenced by the Colombian's high-intensity pressing and ability to make quick runs, which creates space for attacking players like Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo. So far, this tactical shift has paid dividends, with Liverpool sitting atop the Premier League with 36 points from one game fewer. The Reds are also leading their Champions League group with 18 points and have reached the semifinals of the Carabao Cup.

With Liverpool competing on multiple fronts, Slot will have to carefully manage his squad's workload. "Repetition is important for a team; maybe the small details are different because football changes, so you have to adapt, but the main message is always the same," he said.

This Sunday, Liverpool face a crucial match against Chelsea, knowing that a victory will solidify their position at the top of the Premier League. "We still have Tottenham away, matches that, I compare now with Arsenal, had to play at the beginning of the season. Chelsea already played there, so we don't look at where you were during the season, but where you are at the end of the season," Slot concluded. "The best time to judge the campaign is at the halfway point."
