Inter Miami lost 1-2 against Monterrey CF in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals at the Chase Stadium. The second leg will be played next week at Monterrey's Estadio BBVA in Mexico. Lionel Messi is expected to be back for that game. Inter Miami will hope to have him back as he was supposed to be in the squad for tonight's game, but they did not want to risk him as it seemed too soon for him to return on the pitch.

The game was back and forth early in the game as Inter Miami tried creating chances, and Monterrey had a shot on target. The Mexican side looked comfortable with the ball as they dominated possession. Monterrey was struggling to find space to get close to the goal, and Inter Miami would defend well. Inter Miami looked threatening during the counterattack as Luis Suarez threatened with passes and runs.

Inter Miami slowly got into the game and they would take the lead in the 19th minute. Inter Miami had momentum on their side, and they were looking to score another goal before halftime. Inter Miami did lead 1-0 at halftime, but things changed in the second half. Both teams once again had chances to score as Luis Suarez had a free kick just go wide. Things for Inter Miami went for the worst after David Ruiz received a second yellow card in the 65th minute, leaving the team with ten men.

Monterrey wins it late to complete their comeback against Messi's Inter Miami

Monterrey equalized in the 69th minute as Maximiliano Meza pushed the ball into the net from close range. Busquets almost scored their own goal, but Drake Callender scored the save. The rebound fell to Meza, who shot the ball into the net. VAR checked for office, but the goal was given. In the 89th minute, Jorge Rodriguez shoots from outside the box and scores as the ball goes into the top right corner to give Monterrey the 2-1 win.
