Alonso is wanted by many big clubs because of his team's performances in the Bundesliga this season. Leverkusen is rumored to be preparing for Alonso's departure, but they want him to continue for the rest of the season and possibly an extra season due to the Champions League.

Real Madrid were rumored to be appointing Xabi Alonso before renewing Carlo Ancelotti's contract. Ancelotti signed a contract extension that will last till 2026. Alonso played in Bayern Munich in his career, which could lure him to join them, but he has set his eyes on Liverpool instead.

He seems to have a better connection with Liverpool as a club and has spoken in the past about wanting his son to become a Liverpool supporter. Alonso said, "I am still a Liverpool fan and will be forever! Hopefully, I can transmit to my son what Liverpool means and how special it is. He was born in the city, and he will visit it in the future.”

Jurgen Klopp wins the Premier League's January Manager of the Month award
