Julian Alvarez is rumored to leave Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City this summer despite winning the Premier League for two seasons in a row. It has been a very successful period for the Argentine striker at Man City, but he wants more playing time and to be the main striker on the team. The problem is that Man City already has Erling Haaland shining in the team, and they do not want to drop him for Alvarez due to the Norwegian’s statistics. Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and PSG are interested in the player, and Alvarez would be open to a move away from Man City. Alvarez does not care about earning more money at another club since he prioritizes playing more at the club level and cares about what city he will play in if he decides to move. Madrid and Paris are attractive cities, and London would not be far from where he currently lives compared to the other cities. A decision will be made this summer as clubs like PSG are set to make a bid, but Man City does not want to sell.
Alvarez played a total of 54 matches for Manchester City this past season across all competitions. He scored a total of 19 goals and provided 13 assists across all competitions. Haaland was out injured this season, which allowed Alvarez to play more, but when the Norwegian striker came back, Alvarez went back to the bench.
Alvarez will be busy this summer as he will play in the Copa America 2024 and the Summer Olympics with the U23 team. He will be playing two international tournaments as he insisted Guardiola to let him go so he can play more minutes. He wants more opportunities to play and show his level on the big stage before next season.
Julian Alvarez and the Argentina national team will play a friendly against Ecuador tomorrow and then a friendly on Friday against Guatemala. Argentina’s first match in Copa America will be against Canada on June 20th. Then they will play against Chile on June 25th and their last group stage game is against Peru.
