Arsenal are set to face Ipswich Town in the 18th round of the Premier League this Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 5:15 PM (Brasilia time). The match will be live-streamed on Disney+. Mikel Arteta's side will be looking to secure another victory to keep pace with league leaders Liverpool. Brazilian-born Italian midfielder Jorginho, who has been instrumental in Arsenal's success, is using this time to prepare for his post-playing career.
In an exclusive interview with ESPN, Jorginho revealed his ambition to become a coach once he hangs up his boots. The midfielder has been studying and preparing for his next step in football.
"I'm on that path. We'll see what happens," explained Jorginho. "They always told me, 'You're going to be a coach later.' And I always said no, because, whether you like it or not, a coach's life takes up much more time than our lives as players, which are very busy. But I got to Arsenal and they said, 'Why don't you do the course?' And I said, 'You know what? I'll do it then,' just to see what it's like," he added.
"I did the first one and ended up falling in love with being on the pitch, being able to have an impact on the players or the kids or whoever. So, it was really cool and I think it could be a path for the future," said the midfielder, who already has an idea of the kind of coach he would like to be. "I'm still discovering. I definitely want to have a good relationship with my players, an open, sincere relationship."
But Jorginho isn't just preparing for his post-playing career in the classroom. At Arsenal, the midfielder has two names that inspire him: Arteta, the team's head coach, and Nicolas Jover, the mind behind the club's set pieces, who has been attracting attention this season.
