After 267 days without football, Ivan Toney scores in his first game back with Brentford FC in their 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest. The win put Brentford above Forest and placed them in 14th place with 22 points after 20 games played in the Premier League. While Brentford was 1-0 down in the first three minutes by an amazing goal from Nottingham Forest's Danilo, Brentford was awarded a free kick near the edge of the box. The free kick was near the Forest goal, and Ivan Toney was ready to step up and take it. While the Nottingham Forest wall was getting ready and the referee was making sure there was no pushing, Toney moved the referee's white foam and moved the ball to the right.

The wall did not realize that Toney moved the ball slightly to the right. From a top angle, the gap next to the wall was clear for Toney to shoot straight into the net. That is exactly what Toney did as he curled a low shot into the net to score the free kick past Forest's Matt Turner. Turner didn't even move as the shot was too low and fast to stop. The goal was the equalizer for Brentford, and the Bees would go on to win the game 3-2.

Nottingham Forest wrote a complaint to the PGMOL and Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo complained after the game

Nottingham Forest have made an official complaint to both Premier League and PGMOL over Ivan Toney’s goal after he moved the ball to the right slightly from the free-kick. Forest believe that the VAR should've seen the incident and disallowed the goal for moving the ball from where the referee placed it. Espirito Santo spoke after the game and said, "The law is clear, every situation that leads to a goal must be checked. It's not even a matter of inches, it's almost a year."
