Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne has reportedly held preliminary talks over a potential move to the United States, according to recent reports.
The 33-year-old is nearing the end of his current deal with the Citizens, which expires at the end of the current season, with no discussions or clear intentions to renew the contract to date. At the same time, De Bruyne is also battling a groin injury sustained last month, as age seems to be causing him more problems in terms of intensity within English football.
Pep Guardiola has consistently insisted that De Bruyne is simply waiting to reach 100% fitness before returning to match-day duties, having returned to first-team training over the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to mount over what the future holds for Kevin De Bruyne, especially after a summer transfer window rife with suggestions that Saudi Arabia could become his next home.
According to reports from Tom Bogert and Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT, San Diego FC have held talks with the Manchester City vice-captain's representatives about a potential future transfer to the club.
It's explained that the 33-year-old would prefer a move to Major League Soccer over Saudi Arabia if he were to leave Manchester City, and while there is said to be "mutual interest" from both parties after preliminary talks, any move is "far from advanced".
However, there is a possibility that Kevin De Bruyne could remain where he is, and the report emphasizes that Manchester City itself is "keen" to keep the Belgian international captain at the club.
Kevin De Bruyne spoke extensively during the summer months about his future and, in particular, the prospect of moving to the Middle East, given the enormous financial offers that would be put on the table for him.
While De Bruyne accepted the significant monetary benefits of moving to the Saudi Pro League, he also seemingly left the door open to whether the lifestyle in the Middle East would be suitable for his wife and young family.
“For Michele, an exotic adventure is fine. These are also conversations we have more and more as a family,” De Bruyne told a Belgian broadcaster in the summer. “I still have one year left on my contract (at City), so I have to think about what can happen.”
De Bruyne continued: “My [eldest] son is now eight years old and doesn’t know anything else but England. He also asks me how long I will play for City. Once the time comes, we will have to face it in a certain way.
“At my age you have to be open to everything. You talk about incredible amounts in what could be the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that.”
The Belgian international also said he would have to spend two years in Saudi Arabia after the end of his career at Manchester City, then “I could earn an incredible amount of money”.
