Lionel Messi joining Inter Miami has been a success for the MLS club and for David Beckham. Since joining last summer, the Argentine star has been the most crucial player in the squad and has become the face of the MLS. Many football fans have tuned in to watch Messi play for Inter Miami, and since he has deals with Apple and Adidas, the club’s value has increased drastically. While Messi continues to perform on the pitch, he is also massively helping Beckham in financial ways. Leo Messi’s move to Inter Miami has transformed the couple’s wealth in the last 12 months, as it also helped push the valuation of Inter Miami to $1bn. Inter Miami is the second most valuable club in the MLS, with LAFC being the most valuable club in the United States as its around $1.2 billion.
Beckham recognized how smart Messi was to join the MLS and was happy that he was able to convince him to join. The co-owner of Inter Miami said, “Many players wanted to go to Saudi Arabia at the time and he had many offers on the table. But Messi is very smart, he knows how huge the American market is and the opportunities that can be obtained I think he also saw the life that my children, my wife and I lived in Los Angeles. This was his decision.”
The MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, also praised the signing to Messi to Inter Miami and talks about the positive impact it has had to the MLS. Garber said, “The signing of Leo Messi changed everything in the MLS, raising the profile of not only Inter Miami but MLS and the entire sport as a whole in North America. Jorge Mas and David Beckham believed in MLS and made an unprecedented investment in bringing the greatest player to ever play the beautiful game of football.”
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will go back to Canada, but this time, they will face the Vancouver Whitecaps. This will be the second time Messi will play in Canada after facing CF Montreal almost two weeks ago. The Argentine and the rest of the team will travel to Vancouver to play against the Whitecaps, a distance of 4,500km, which is the most distance an MLS team has ever traveled.
