He shined with Cristiano at Man United but now his comments annoys CR7, the words of Rooney about Messi that shocks fans

The Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo comparison and debate have been going on for over two decades as the two are arguably the greatest football players of all time. The two icons of football are still compared to this day despite them playing outside of Europe. Ronaldo is the star of Al Nassr, while Messi is the star of Inter Miami. Many players have given their choice in the debate between Messi and Ronaldo, but what many did not expect was Wayne Rooney’s answer. The former Manchester United captain, along with Ronaldo, shined for the team when they were managed under Sir Alex Ferguson. There seems to not be a friendly environment between the two since, and many fans are convinced the friendship they once had is no longer there after the comments Rooney made about Messi vs Ronaldo. When asked who he thinks is better, Rooney said, “I think Messi, he’s the best ever. I get a lot of stick for saying where it’s as if, ‘How can you say Messi, it’s Ronaldo.’”

Rooney continues to defend his opinion by saying, “I understand that people can say Messi, people can say Ronaldo - they are both incredible, probably the best two players to ever play the game. For me, Messi has just got that little bit more flair, which I like in a player, so that’s the reason.”

Two years ago, before the 2022 World Cup, Rooney praised Messi again when he was asked about the differences between the Argentine star and CR7. Rooney said, “Everyone has different views on Messi and Ronaldo but I’ve said many times that Messi is the best. Messi has everything, the way he controls games, his dribbling, his assists, whereas Ronaldo is more of a goalscorer.”

The Ronaldo and Rooney tension

Rooney spoke about Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United a couple of years ago and mentioned that CR7 may feel frustrated to sit on the bench because he is always willing to play. Rooney goes on to explain that Ronaldo isn’t young anymore, which makes it difficult for him to play often. Ronaldo responded in an interview with Piers Morgan where he suggested that he doesn’t understand the criticism he gets from Rooney and believes there is jealousy from Rooney.
