Manchester United had a difficult season under Erik Ten Hag, and the manager was at risk of losing his job after finishing 8th in the Premier League. The team did win the FA Cup trophy against Manchester City in the last game of their season, and now the club is set to keep Ten Hag for next season after many rumors suggesting the club was looking at other managers to replace the Dutchman. Ten Hag confirms that Manchester United was looking at other managers and revealed that one of them was Thomas Tuchel. Ten Hag told NOS Studio Voetbal, “Manchester United have told me that they spoke with [Thomas] Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager. [Manchester] United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract. This isn’t easily done, we are still going to have to talk about this..” Tuchel was rumored to have taken the Manchester United job after parting ways with Bayern Munich, but now it seems that he will not be coaching next season.

Ten Hag talked about the co-owners of Manchester United, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, about their plans with the club. Ten Hag said, “INEOS are new into football, so it’s normal to take their time and reflect the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates for Manchester United job, in England it’s allowed. Here in Holland this is ‘not done’, in fact, it’s not even allowed here. But in England they have different rules and laws.”

Ten Hag spoke about how he found out about staying at Manchester United since his future was uncertain after the season ended. The Man United manager said, “Manchester United flew to me in Ibiza to tell me that I was gonna stay. So they disturbed my holiday, they suddenly stood at my doorstep.”
