The Saudi Pro League signed many significant star players from Europe last year. They started 2023 with the huge signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. In the summer of 2023, the league brought in world-class players Neymar and Karim Benzema, along with other quality players like Mane, Bounou, and Koulibaly.
Saudi Arabia is at it again and is looking to bring in another big name. After concerns about how the lifestyle is in Saudi Arabia by other players like Jordan Henderson and Benzema, the Saudi Pro League still manages to convince more players to join. Their latest pursuit is Sevilla's Ivan Rakitic. The former Champions League winner with FC Barcelona has also spent many years with Sevilla and his time is coming to an end.
Rakitic has played for Sevilla before and after his career at Barcelona. Rakitic returned to Sevilla in 2020 and has been one of the captains of the teams. Rakitic has seen very few minutes this season for Sevilla, and it has been a nightmare for the club in the La Liga table. Sevilla are currently 17th in the La Liga table and are only 1 point above the relegation zone.
Sevilla finished last in their Champions League group this season without a single win. Rakitic played most of the Champions League games, but after the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores, the Croatian midfielder is not playing as often as he wishes.

Ivan Rakitic is close to joining the Saudi Pro League and join Al-Shabab
Rakitic is reported to have agreed on a deal with Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab. The Croatian midfielder is keen on the move and is in talks over contract details to make the move happen as soon as possible. Another player that has played in La Liga and now plays in Al-Shabab is Yannick Carrasco. Éver Banega also played for Sevilla and joined Al-Shabab but has left to play for Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.
