Guardiola gets back a key player, who is he going to bench for them?

Manchester City get a huge boost with the return of this player in training

Manchester City welcome back this player from injury

Manchester City are coming off their most successful season ever where they did the continental treble and matched their biggest rival’s biggest achievement. When City had their takeover in 2008 the endgame was to become the best team in the world and dominate England. Last season solidified that for them after winning the UCL and doing a three peat with the Premier League. After winning all that, how do you continue.

Manchester City have not had the dominating campaign so far that football fans have been accustomed to with Manchester City. They are currently second in the league, trailing by five points to a familiar title challenger in Liverpool, but City do have a game in hand against Brentford where City will more than likely win the match. Earlier in the season there were some struggles that City had not encountered in a long time in the Pep Guardiola era.

Manchester City had won two in seven earlier in the season in the Premier League which was the worst run of games under Pep Guardiola. That run led to huge doubts about whether City could win the Premier League this season, and that they possibly have grown complacent. It’s hard to keep the same hunger after winning so much cause of the effort it takes. And for a while it looked like that.

City fans would use the excuse of injuries, as Manchester City have not been the healthiest of teams this season. Kevin De Bruyne missed the whole first half of the season, and the Belgian superstar just returned, and his impact was immediately noticed. Another player that has missed lots of time is John Stones, and it is no surprise that City have struggled defensively. He’s back in training but so is this their main man in Erling Haaland. The superstar has missed time recently with a foot injury but he’s back.

The player who’s position could be under threat with Haaland return

With Haaland back now, it means that someone will have to lose their spot in the starting XI. One of those players that could lose it is Julian Alvarez, as the Argentinian striker has been filling in for Haaland.
