Another day, another rumor for United with a central defender. The club has been linked with numerous guys and as the list of defenders they want gets finalized, the further and further the details go when it comes to the names. The club’s desire for a defender is well known across Europe, and the rumors are flying as United have been linked with plenty. But each link has a different type of reliability.

There have been three strong names United are associated with that have a strong chance of coming to the club. Jarrad Branthwaite, Leny Yoro, and Jean-Clair Todibo. All three players are well respected within United, have impressed the scouts, and bring something that the club does not have. United are set to lose at least two central defenders this summer, so the likelihood is that two of the three names will be signed. At least one of them feels like a certainty by this point.

Branthwaite and Todibo are interesting options based on the connection with new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. With the English defender it is the fact that Jim wants to build a much stronger English core at the football club. That core has been lacking at the club for years and is a far cry away from what the old United teams used to have. Meanwhile, Todibo plays at a club that Jim is well aware of. Todibo plays for OCG Nice who is a club that is owned by Ratcliffe. The connection between the two has led to reports believing United are the frontrunners.

Leny Yoro does not have that kind of relationship with the club, but the club has fallen in love with him. The scouts believe he is a top talent, and the type of player United needs to get before other top opposition does.

According to Le10Sport, United have the advantage of getting a discounted offer on the player at 60 million pounds, unlike PSG who will have to pay premium as they are a rival of Lille. With their recent financial struggles, this is a huge boost for United.
