Liverpool have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season as they currently sit first in the Premier League above their rivals Manchester City. After a very disappointing season last season which saw them finish outside of the Champion League spots and in Europa League, the Reds have bounced back strong. A big reason for that is the midfield revolution that took place this summer. Liverpool sold two crucial players to their success under Klopp including captain Jordan Henderson and their number six in Fabinho.

With the two veterans gone, Liverpool needed to bring in real quality and so far, they have with four new midfield signings. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch. Add on top of that the likes of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott who were already at the club and that is strong midfield depth. However, there was another midfielder that stayed in Merseyside this summer and that is Thiago Alcantara.

The Spanish midfielder has not had the easiest times at Liverpool as he has been injured on multiple occasions and this season so far, he has had zero appearances. With Liverpool top of the league this season without Thiago, they are chomping at the bit to see him back and see if he can help them in the title race.

However, the fact that Liverpool are top of the league without Thiago could also raise this question. Do Liverpool need Thiago? With Liverpool prioritizing a younger more athletic midfield, it could possibly make sense for the Scouse club to move on from Thiago and go for a younger midfielder that is in Thiago’s profile. However, for the time being Klopp is focused on seeing the midfielder back and using him in games.

Interest from abroad in Thiago

Teams have taken witness of the situation at Liverpool and with Thiago available for free this summer, clubs are ready to capitalize now to grab the player on a pre-agreement. Two of those clubs are Flamengo and Al-Ettifaq according to TEAMtalk. Also, according to Ben Jacobs from CaughtOffside, other Saudi clubs will also be on the lookout for Thiago.
