Real Madrid has its eyes on the Club World Cup, but it is also planning for the long-term future, with next season already in mind. One case that could take a dramatic turn this summer is that of David Alaba. According to journalist Mario Cortegana from The Athletic, the club is considering the possibility of terminating the Austrian defender's contract, which currently runs until 2026.

Alaba, who returned to the field in January after being sidelined for more than a year due to physical issues, has once again been affected by an injury: a tear in the internal meniscus of his left knee. At 33 years old, recovering from this new injury could prove more difficult, adding to the physical concerns he was already facing.

The defender, who has been a key figure in Real Madrid's defence, has clearly suffered from physical setbacks. Despite his undeniable quality, uncertainty about his future at the club has grown. With one of the highest salaries in the squad, around 11 million euros net, the club's management is weighing whether it would be best to let the player go, reducing the wage bill and creating space for potential signings.

The possibility of Alaba leaving the club in the coming months has gained momentum, as Real Madrid may be considering that his time at the club could end sooner than expected. Despite his achievements and prestige, the club seems ready to move forward, looking to the future beyond his physical problems.

Alaba's uncertain future: his departure could be near

With next season in mind, Real Madrid is exploring various options, and terminating David Alaba's contract could be one of the most significant decisions. With injuries playing a key role, the defender could be spending his final months at the Santiago Bernabeu.
