After an initial season of adaptation in 2021/22, where he registered 6 goals and 5 assists in 39 appearances, Grealish seemed to find his stride. The 2022/23 campaign, the monumental treble-winning year (Premier League, FA Cup, and the coveted Champions League), saw him become a key component for City. He netted 5 goals, provided 11 assists, and played an impressive 50 matches, demonstrating consistent performance as a left-winger.

However, the seeds of his decline may have been sown at the very peak of this triumph. Following the Champions League victory against Inter in Istanbul, Grealish and several other squad members reportedly traveled to Ibiza to celebrate the title. From that point on, Jack was, arguably, never quite the same. Or, perhaps more accurately, he reverted to some of the behavioral issues that had plagued him during his time at Aston Villa. His constant nocturnal outings have evidently impacted his ability to maintain the consistent performance level required at the highest echelons of football.

A Steep Decline and Looming Departure

Despite being under contract with the Manchester club until mid-2027, Grealish was notably absent from the squad that traveled to the United States for the Club World Cup. He now finds himself squarely on the transfer list.a

At 29 years old (he turns 30 on September 10) and with a history of off-field incidents that don't help his case, City management understands they cannot demand a high price. Consequently, reports from within the club's vicinity suggest that he could be transferred for as little as €40 million, a figure representing nearly a third of what was paid for him just four years ago. His dip in form has also pushed him out of contention for the England national team. His last appearance was in October 2024 against Finland in the UEFA Nations League, and he has not received a call-up since.

From €117 Million to a €40 Million Tag: The Unraveling of a Dream Signing

The stark reality of Grealish's situation is encapsulated in his plummeting market value. Acquired for a monumental €117 million as a beacon of future success, Manchester City is now reportedly prepared to offload him for a mere €40 million, highlighting a significant and costly miscalculation in their transfer strategy.
