FC Barcelona's Deco makes bold claim on Bergvall joining Spurs instead of Barca

Although FC Barcelona isn’t able to afford to make big signings, the Catalan club was close to making a signing late in the transfer window. Barca has been very interested in signing Lucas Bergvall from Sweden. The 18-year-old midfielder has caught the attention of many clubs, but he was set to join Barca.

In the final days of the January transfer window, a deal between FC Barcelona and Bergvall's club, Djurgarden, was very close and advanced. Forty-eight hours before the winter transfer market closed, Tottenham showed interest in the player and was negotiating with Bergvall’s club at the last minute. They both agreed to the deal, and Spurs hijacked it. Tottenham announced the signing of Bergvall yesterday.

Bergvall spoke about joining Spurs, saying, “It feels like the beginning of an era here at Tottenham. There's a great coach, Ange. It's a great club, a great manager with a hungry and young team playing really good football. It’s a pure joy for me to be part of this big club."

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou spoke about Bergvall as well and said, "He's a very talented young man. Nice young man, too, good family. He's already had a really positive start to his career, and we feel like this club will be good for him, and he will be good for us. Obviously, he'll be at his club for the remainder of this season, and then he'll join us in the summer, and I'm looking forward to having him as part of the group."
