The English midfielder Dele Alli has officially joined Como 1907 on a free transfer, signing an 18-month contract with the possibility of a one-year extension. Despite his recent lack of playing time with Everton, Alli’s move to the Italian club comes with a specific role: mentoring younger players such as Argentina’s Nico Paz.
"Como 1907 officially announces the signing of English player Dele Alli with an 18-month contract and an option for an additional year," the club stated in an announcement. "The club recognizes his exceptional talent and is excited to welcome him to the team."
Alli, who has been training with Como for several weeks, convinced the club’s management and head coach Cesc Fàbregas of his potential. However, his integration into the squad will be gradual, with an emphasis on his role as a mentor to the club's younger players.
"The goal is to provide Dele with a supportive environment to gradually integrate into the team. While there are no immediate performance expectations, the club believes he will make a significant contribution both on the field and as a mentor to young talents, including Nico Paz, Alieu Fadera, Assane Diao, Maxence Caqueret, Máxi Perrone, and Lucas Da Cunha," the club explained.
Fàbregas shared his thoughts on Alli's signing, expressing confidence in the player’s leadership skills and potential. "The club believes in Dele’s potential and is committed to helping him return to his best form. His experience and leadership qualities will undoubtedly be valuable to the team," Fàbregas commented.
Alli had spent the previous season on loan at Besiktas but had not played a minute or been included in any matchday squads this season with Everton, which he left in December.
