Argentine defender Cuti Romero has become one of Tottenham's most crucial players, but in a recent interview, he hinted that his future could lie away from the London club, sparking rumours of a potential departure at the end of the season. Amid the intense focus on the UEFA Europa League, Romero spoke about his current mindset and future ambitions.
“I try to live day by day. There are two months left until the season ends, and in my head, it's always about performing at my best and finishing in the best way possible,” he began, acknowledging the importance of the present moment. With Tottenham in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League, Romero highlighted the opportunity before them. "We’re in the semifinals of the Europa League, and it's an important step for the club after so many years without reaching these stages," he added.
However, when asked about his long-term future, the Spurs centre-back didn’t shy away from the topic. "When the season ends, we’ll see. I haven’t spoken to my agent yet, but I’m open to anything," confessed Romero, making it clear he’s open to new opportunities. "In my head, it's always about growing and also going to new places to keep growing, but there are several months before that," the Argentine continued, leaving the door open to a possible change.
One of the most frequently mentioned destinations in recent weeks is Atlético Madrid, who are reportedly looking to strengthen their defence. "In La Liga, I would still like to play. I would love it, to be honest," Romero admitted, sparking further speculation about the Spanish club’s potential interest in him. With the desire to continue growing and reaching new heights in his career, the defender seems open to considering offers, with Atlético Madrid presenting an appealing option.
Although there are still several months before any decision is made, the prospect of playing in La Liga remains on Romero’s mind as he seeks new challenges. For now, he’ll focus on Tottenham and the remainder of the season, but his future remains uncertain, and the possibility of a club change still hangs in the balance.
