As much as he enjoys the company of his teammates, one of them could be joining a rival club of his for many years, Real Madrid. ESPN Argentina reports that Real Madrid is interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero. The Argentine defender is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is crucial for Messi and the Argentina national team as he was part of the squad that won the Copa America and the World Cup, two trophies Messi struggled to get before. The defender is 26 years old, and his contract with Spurs expires in the summer of 2027. His current market value is above $60 million, and Real Madrid would need to offer more than that to convince Spurs to let him go to them.

Romero played a total of 34 matches for Spurs this past season, scoring five goals. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2022 from Atalanta, and in total, he made 98 appearances for Spurs across all competitions. He scored six goals in total for the club and provided one assist. He became a big name for Argentina in 2021 when he made his debut with the national team in a World Cup qualifying match against Chile.

His first tournament with Argentina was the 2021 Copa America, where he played 79 minutes in the final against Brazil, which they won 1-0. He played the entire game in the 2022 World Cup Final against France, where they won 4-2 on penalties. Romero played in the last friendly match for Argentina against Ecuador in a 1-0, where he provided the assist with an amazing fake shot.
