Lionel Messi has been successful over the last couple of years with the Argentina national team as he won the Copa America 2021 and the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. One of the players who have been as crucial as Messi is Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez. The goalkeeper has been key for Argentina and Aston Villa. He was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the world as he won The Best Goalkeeper award in 2023 after the World Cup. Now, he is linked to a move away from the Premier League as he could become an option for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. Caught offside reports that Al Nassr has a backup plan to sign Emiliano Martinez this summer since their main target is Ederson from Manchester City. Martinez’s contract with Aston Villa expires in the summer of 2027. Al Nassr’s keeper this past season, David Ospina, is set to leave the club this summer, and Ronaldo would want a solid keeper who has experience.
Martinez played a total of 47 matches for Aston Villa this past season across all competitions. He conceded 61 goals and kept 15 clean sheets. In the Premier League, Martinez and Aston Villa secured a Champions League spot and will play in it next season. They placed 4th in the league with 68 points, and their record was 20 wins, eight draws, and 10 losses.
Many are interested in seeing how Martinez and Ronaldo would work as teammates since the Argentine is very close friends with Messi. The keeper has played against Ronaldo and Messi in the past, and Dibu mentioned how it was harder to face his countrymen. Martinez said, “The best I ever faced was Messi. As a player, as a leader, as a person. I think he inspired me to be a better goalkeeper and better version of myself in the Copa América. I will always be grateful of him.”
Popular stream iShowSpeed was in attendance for the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony last October, and he met many football stars, including Dibu Martinez. In a funny moment, Speed tells Martinez that Ronaldo is the best, and Martinez quickly disagrees.
