Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, spoke to the press on Saturday, a day before their LaLiga match against Sevilla. The Italian tactician acknowledged Kylian Mbappé’s improved performances, emphasizing that the French forward’s adaptation period at the club has come to an end. Ancelotti also outlined areas where Mbappé can further refine his game.
“Kylian’s adaptation period is over. He’s showing a much better version of himself and is now fully recovered from his recent injury. I see him more motivated and excited,” said Ancelotti. “However, he needs to work on his consistency and deliver those brilliant plays he’s capable of with greater frequency.”
Mbappé, who celebrated his 26th birthday this week, joined Real Madrid last summer as a free agent after leaving PSG. Despite a spectacular unveiling at the Santiago Bernabéu and early triumphs like the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, his initial months were met with criticism. Subpar performances in key matches, such as the Clásico against Barcelona and a Champions League clash with Liverpool, drew scrutiny from fans and media alike.
Nevertheless, the forward appears to have turned a corner. His growing influence on the pitch reflects his adjustment to the high demands of the club, and Ancelotti’s comments signal confidence in his continued progression.
Real Madrid, currently third in LaLiga with 37 points, will host Sevilla on Sunday, December 22, at 16:15 CET at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Merengues aim to bounce back from a dramatic 3-3 draw against Rayo Vallecano in their previous outing, where goals from Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo secured a point.
Sevilla, managed by Xavi García Pimienta, sits mid-table with 22 points after a narrow 1-0 victory over Celta, courtesy of Manu Bueno’s goal. Despite their position, Ancelotti views Sevilla as a tough opponent. “We’re back after many away games, and we want to end 2024 on a high note. Sevilla competes well and is always tough, but our objective is clear: finish the year with a win,” said Ancelotti.
