The UEFA Champions League delivered once again when it comes to drama on the pitch. Atletico Madrid got past Inter Milan after being 2-0 down on aggregate. Atleti turned things around quickly in the 90 minutes of regular time as Antoine Greizmann and Memphis Depay scored to make it 2-2 on the aggregate score. The two teams played extra time, but neither was able to find a third goal to get the winner. After 120 minutes were played, the game needed to be decided on penalties. Atletico got the better of Inter Milan thanks to their keeper, Jan Oblak.

During the penalty shootout, the tension in the stadium was high. The first player to take one was Hakan Calhanoglu. He scored the first penalty for Inter, and then Depay stepped up. Angel Correa scored Atleti's fourth penalty, and Lautaro Martinez skied his penalty, meaning Inter's third penalty miss gave Atletcio the win.

The first miss from Inter Milan witnessed something surprising from the Atletico bench. As Alexis Sanchez missed his penalty, the Atletico Madrid fans and players celebrated with joy. Griezmann celebrated from the bench as well but insulted the Chilean player. Griezmann is seen mouthing the words, "He's [Sanchez] a coward, the Chilean is a coward!" This brought controversy for Griezmann for no sportsmanship, but reportedly, the player did not mean to insult Alexis Sanchez.

A report from Marca suggests that Antoine Griezmann contacted Alexis Sanchez to apologize. The Chilean accepted his apology. Griezmann explained he was trying to motivate Oblak with his words (“He’s a coward, the Chilean is a coward!”), and Sanchez understood his intention.
