Luciano Spalletti has publicly stated his desire to see Federico Chiesa return to Serie A, a comment that is likely to have ruffled some feathers at Liverpool.

The Italy head coach, in an interview with Vivo Azzurro TV, expressed his hope that Chiesa would find more consistent playing time at club level. "People like Chiesa," Spalletti said, "we are there hoping that he can play with more continuity and that he can show us through these possibilities that you have of seeing them train, of seeing these guys play continuously."

When asked if he would welcome Chiesa's return to Serie A, Spalletti replied: "Yes, I would be very much in favor of having Chiesa under control as far as the level of our football is concerned, to go and reintegrate him because those who have this quality of looking you in the eye and breaking through the line in front of them to go to the next one, there aren’t many."

Slot Hits Back at Spalletti's Chiesa Comments

While Chiesa has struggled with injuries and limited game time since his arrival from Juventus, he showed glimpses of his quality in Liverpool's recent victory over Lille, forcing several good saves from the opposition goalkeeper.

While increased playing time is crucial for Chiesa to earn his place back in the Italian national team, it's unlikely that Spalletti's comments will sway the winger to seek a return to Serie A. Chiesa's passionate reaction to Harvey Elliott's goal against Lille demonstrated his commitment to the Liverpool cause.

Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, will undoubtedly be unimpressed by Spalletti's public appeal for Chiesa to return to Italy. However, it's safe to assume that the Reds will continue to nurture Chiesa's development and help him reach his full potential at Anfield.
