Brazilian winger Antony Matheus is scheduled to undergo medical examinations on Saturday morning in Seville, ahead of finalizing his loan move to Real Betis. Antony will join the Spanish club from Manchester United, where he has been playing since 2022, for the rest of the current season.
According to Betis officials, the 24-year-old has received permission from Manchester United to complete the necessary medical tests before signing his loan contract. He is expected to arrive in Seville by road overnight, with the tests set to take place in the city’s hospital on Saturday.
The loan agreement between Real Betis and Manchester United has been finalized, with no option for Betis to purchase Antony at the end of the season. Antony, whose contract with Manchester United runs until June 2027, has represented Brazil 16 times at the international level. Since joining the Premier League club in the summer of 2022 from Ajax, Antony has appeared in 96 official matches, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
Antony’s time at Manchester United has been marked by inconsistency, with his performances declining over the past season. Despite a strong start, his playing time has significantly reduced under the management changes that saw Erik Ten Hag, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and Rubén Amorim come and go. In the current season, Antony has played 14 matches, starting only three of them, none of which were in the Premier League, scoring just one goal. His loan move to Betis presents a new opportunity to regain form and further his career.
