FC Barcelona needs points because of the position they are in currently. Barcelona's 5-3 loss to Villarreal over the weekend has put them lower from 3rd to 4th. Barcelona has 44 points and is 11 points behind Girona, the league leader. Real Madrid are in second with 54 points but have a game in hand, and with a win, they can become new league leaders with 57 points. Barcelona could be 13 points off the top table.

Xavi spoke about needing a reaction from the players, who are desperate to pick up points fast to compete for the La Liga title. Xavi said, "After the last few days, I expect a big reaction from the team tomorrow. We need to be now more united than ever. I know we're not playing the way we'd like to. We need to do much better."

Barcelona has suffered a loss in the squad with Alejandro Balde missing around four months, which means he is out for the rest of the season. Ter Stegen has been seen in training and could return in time before the 1st leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Napoli. Sergi Roberto is also injured and will miss around two weeks without action. Barcelona are unlucky to receive more bad news since they just announced another injury in their squad.
