The young German attacking midfielder has been a revelation under Xabi Alonso this season as he was a crucial part of Leverkusen's Bundesliga title win, which is the club's first in its history. The German club put a $159.4 million price tag on the 20-year-old as Barca and Madrid are interested.

Despite Bayer Leverkusen placing a price tag on Wirtz and FC Barcelona heavily interested in the German player, the new Bundesliga champions have stated that the player will stay at the club next season. Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro spoke about the player and told AS, "Florian Wirtz will stay with us next season. The plan is clear, together with his father. There's interest from many clubs; we can't plan too long in football... but he's staying. He could win the Ballon d'Or one day." Wirtz's contract with Leverkusen expires on June 30th, 2027.

He is tied as the top goalscorer for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga with 11, along with Victor Boniface, and is the second top assisters in the team in the league with 10; Alejandro Grimaldo is top with 12.
