After weeks of intense speculation dominating European football headlines, the truth about Florian Wirtz's future has finally emerged. Liverpool FC has reportedly reached a monumental agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of the highly-rated 22-year-old German midfielder, in a deal worth a staggering €137.5 million. This move not only represents a new club record for the current Premier League champions but also sets a new all-time transfer record for the entire competition, surpassing the €133 million paid by Chelsea for Moisés Caicedo.

The Athletic reported today that the deal comprises an initial payment of €117.5 million (£100 million) with an additional €18.8 million (£16 million) in performance-related add-ons. Wirtz, widely considered one of European football's brightest young talents, is expected to sign a five-year contract with Anfield, extending until 2030.

Recent reports had suggested a potential €150 million agreement, which was Bayer Leverkusen's initial demand for a player under contract until June 30, 2027. However, the final agreement was sealed at a slightly lower figure, incorporating variables based on future objectives.

Wirtz's signing marks a significant coup for Liverpool, bringing a midfielder known for his exceptional ability to unleash unexpected shots on goal and deliver incisive passes that unlock defenses. Last season, the German international showcased his prowess by bagging 16 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 appearances as Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga and reached the Champions League knockout stages. In the preceding campaign, under the masterful guidance of Xabi Alonso, Wirtz was instrumental in Leverkusen's historic, undefeated Bundesliga title run, also reaching the Europa League final, where he contributed an astounding 18 goals and 20 assists in 49 matches.

His arrival at Anfield signals Liverpool's unwavering ambition to compete for top honors both domestically and in Europe, adding a truly world-class creative force to their midfield.
