After the bidding opened last November 30, the Lionel Messi jerseys worn by the captain of the Argentine national team during the World Cup in Qatar last year were auctioned this Thursday and were sold for a total of 7.803 million dollars, making a mockery of the seven thousand dollars paid for a Cristiano Ronaldo jersey at auction last year.

The winner won a lot that includes six Argentina jerseys with the number 10 and Messi's name on the back, worn in the first half of the final against France, the semifinals against Croatia, the quarterfinals against the Netherlands, the round of 16 against Australia and two matches in the group stage: against Saudi Arabia and Mexico. The purple jersey worn against Poland was not part of the auction.

Although it was estimated that this collection of Messi could exceed 10 million dollars, it failed to do so and, therefore, did not surpass the record of a jersey worn by Michael Jordan in the 1998 NBA Finals, which sold for 10.1 million dollars. However, it should be noted that an unspecified portion of the $7.8 million raised will go to the UNICAS project of the Sant Joan de Déu pediatric hospital in Barcelona.

Humiliation of Cristiano Ronaldo

The amount paid for Messi's t-shirts does not compare to what they paid last year for a Cristiano Ronaldo t-shirt. Save Ukraine Now, an initiative created in Ukraine to help the army of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, has auctioned a shirt signed by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo with which they have obtained more than two thousand euros, reports Monday the local agency Ukrinform. The payment on that occasion was 7 thousand dollars.
