Almost a year after the 2022 World Cup, the stories that this competition has left behind do not end. As well as the controversies that it left, among them, that memorable match in the quarterfinals between Argentina and the Netherlands, where Messi and company's team ended up winning on penalties to qualify for the semifinal.

The coach of the Netherlands at that time was Van Gaal. The coach had some friction with Lionel Messi after comments prior to said game. However, Messi dedicated his goal to him to anger the coach and his coaching staff. Now, almost a year later, the coach returns to talk about what he experienced in that World Cup.

In an interview with NOS, Van Gaal said that he believed that he was premeditated. “I really don't want to say much about it. When you see how Argentina scored the goals, how we did them and how some Argentine players went over the line and were not penalized, I think it was all premeditated."

What else did Van Gaal say?

I believe that there was a premeditated action to benefit Argentina in the World Cup, so that Messi can lift his first World Cup trophy. “I mean everything I say. That Messi should be world champion? I think so, ”said the former Barcelona coach who was awarded for his career in football.
