Erling Haaland is experiencing an important moment in his career. The Norwegian footballer is one of the forwards who attracts the most attention. Since his arrival at Manchester City, Erling Haaland has been the great sensation and in such a short time he broke multiple records that place him as one of the great players of today. Now, the footballer establishes himself in an important way, but he receives unexpected news about an unknown forward who already surpasses his numbers.

After the last day of the Conference League, Barnabás Varga (Szombathely, 10-25-1994) will equal Haaland as the best scorer in the world in 2023. This is what the ranking published just three days ago by the International Federation says, at least of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). Haaland and Varga himself, who have scored 37 goals for club and country, have left behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Germán Cano (36).

Varga, who joined Ferencváros this summer from Paksi for 800,000 euros, is a late scorer. In 2010 he left Hungary - he was active in the Illés Akadémia - to play in the Austrian Fourth Division in the ranks of SV Eberau, a team from a town of barely 900 inhabitants. In 2016 he made the jump to the Mattersburg reserve team, but, after scoring seven goals in his first week, he made the jump to the first team. On September 24, 2016, at the age of 21 years and 10 months, he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga under the command of a local legend: Ivica Vastic.

Varga's numbers in his career

It was in the Austrian Second Division, with SV Lafnitz, with which he began to show signs of his potential as a performer. He scored 12 goals in 30 games until, midway through the 2019-20 season, he opted to return home. Varga did not sign for any big club, but for Gyirmót, from the Hungarian Second Division.
