Lionel Messi is on the doorstep of once again making history in his storied career. Messi last featured for PSG in its 2-1 away win over Juventus in UEFA Champions League group stage play, where he assisted Kylian Mbappe for the first goal of the contest. Overall, the Argentine forward made it four straight matches in all competitions with at least one assist recorded.

Messi also logged the 296th assist of his club career, with 14 of them coming this season at PSG. With a mere four more assists, he will become the first player ever in Europe’s top five leagues to record at least 300 club assists. Messi will have to wait until the second half of the season to accomplish this feat, as PSG has a mere one more fixture left on its schedule before the start of the World Cup.

What Mbappe's mum has to say to PSG, it shocked fans and Messi

While Messi is focused at PSG, what Mbappe said that enraged fans

At the least, Messi could inch closer to reaching 300 career club assists in PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture against AJ Auxerre. Even at this stage in his career, Messi continues to prove that he sure has plenty left in the tank. The 2022 FIFA World Cup begins in a few days and all players heading to Qatar with their national team are watching their fitness to ensure they’re healthy, including Messi.

Messi is dealing with an Achilles injury that kept him out of PSG’s 2-1 win at Lorient last weekend. Still, Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni has no concerns over the 35-year-old’s fitness. “No player is going to reach 100 percent ahead of the World Cup,” Scaloni said. “We will do our best in the final week before the tournament to help every player."

Messi will be ready

“There are some who will not play the last games as a precaution, but we know they are fine.” After a challenging first season in the French capital, Messi is having a bounce-back season with PSG and reminding some doubters that his best years as a footballer aren’t behind him yet. The Argentine has a collective 26 goals and assists for PSG this season.
