The reason why Galtier left Neymar on PSG’s bench in his best moment

This Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain returned to the pitch in Ligue 1 and will not have Neymar among the starters for the match against Nantes. Amazingly, the Brazilian will be on the bench, but this decision seems an unusual one, since Neymar is living his best moment with PSG.

It is not clear if the decision taken by coach Christophe Galtier has any specific reason, but it may be just a change to rotate the squad. Nuno Mendes, who was also a starter, is another player who is on the bench.

One of the reasons could be that of Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman feels outshined by Neymar’s spectacular start to the season and as Mbappé has all the power in PSG, maybe Galtier felt compelled to give Neymar a rest.

Otherwise, Galtier has put PSG at full strength, with Messi, Mbappé, Marquinhos and company on the field. The match against Nantes can return the Parisian club to the top of Ligue 1. Currently, Marseille leads the table with 16 points, compared to Paris' 13.

Another reason why Galtier chose to sit Neymar is to give him rest. PSG start the Champions League season this week against Juventus in what will be a demanding match. However, Galtier will have to explain his decision of benching Neymar, as he is currently enjoying the best form in the team.
