Xavi Hernández had the privilege of being able to share the playing field and make history alongside the best player in the world and, for many, one of the best in history. The spanish footballer was one of the lynchpins of the midfield of that historic FC Barcelona that, under the orders of Josep Guardiola, won several titles alongside Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi in his prime. Now, as the head coach of the catalan club, he spoke about what is expected from the young gem of the team: Lamine Yamal.

Football Club Barcelona is preparing for a new UEFA Champions League journey where it will face FC Porto of Portugal in its next match. Xavi Hernández's team seeks to return to the international spotlight and that is why it has been reinforced with world-class figures such as the polish striker Robert Lewandowski or the portuguese players, João Cancelo and João Félix.

But one of the best reinforcements that the spanish coach has had is in the lower divisions of the club, ‘La Masía’, and he had his first experiences with it during the european summer in the Joan Gamper Trophy, where he dazzled everyone. Lamine Yamal is one of the club's greatest jewels and it is inevitable that he will begin to be compared to Lionel Messi worldwide, a situation that has already happened previously with other ‘blaugrana’ stars.

This is what Xavi Hernández said about Lamine Yamal and the comparisons with Lionel Messi

Xavi Hernández is delighted with his two young jewels in the squad: Lamine Yamal and Fermín. Despite their young age, they are doing everything to earn a place in the first team along the begining of the season. Regarding Yamal, the spanish coach knows that he has a diamond in his hands and asks for calm before the desire to compare him with Lionel Messi. “The expectations are tremendous, he is playing at a brutal level. Comparing him with Messi we have already seen that the other players he has signed have not done well”, he told the spanish site Sport.
