Real Madrid just proved that having a reliable goalkeeper defending the goal is often more important than having several players that can create dangerous plays consistently, as Thibaut Courtois was the most important player for Los Blancos in the final of the Champions League.
Karim Benzema's secret is out: the player does something that no one else should do
Los Blancos conquered their 14th European Cup by beating 1-0 Liverpool, as they took advantage of the only chance that they had to open the score. But Carlo Ancelotti knows that they can’t settle with the outstanding performances that they had in the season, which is why he’s already planning the 2022-23 La Liga season.
Even if they have Courtois on the goal, they know that a reliable backup is just as important, especially on the goal. And now, thanks to Guillermo Ochoa, who recently said that his dream is to play in Real Madrid, Los Blancos turned to North America to seek their new goalkeeeper.
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos have started conversations with MLS side Chicago Fire to acquire Gabriel Slonina, who has become on of the top prospects in Major League Soccer since debuting last season.
So far, the 18-year-old Polish American goalkeeper has played 24 games with the Fire, with nine clean sheets. Although he’s also followed by Chelsea and Bayern Munich, it is Real Madrid who have taken the first step and already contacted Chicago Fire.
His current market value is set at $3.3 million, but the same reports suggest that Chicago Fire is expecting an initial offer of at least $4 million for one of the goalkeepers with most potential, an offer more than affordable for Real Madrid.
