Erik ten Hag is expected to receive a £3 million bonus if he guides Manchester United back to the Champions League, according to The Sun. The Red Devils will begin their new era with the Dutch tactician competing in the UEFA Europa League due to their sixth-place finish in the league last season. According to the aforementioned source, Ten Hag will pocket a salary of £9 million over the course of his tenure at Old Trafford.

However, there are several bonuses attached to the Dutchman's contract. One of those bonuses is a seven-figure incentive if he guides Manchester United back to the Champions League.

It is vital for a club like Manchester United to qualify for and remain in the Champions League in order to have a steady stream of revenue. According to reports, the Red Devils could incur debts of around £90 million if they fail to qualify for the Champions League for a second year in a row.

If it fails to secure a top-four finish, United will lose £25 million from its uniform sponsor, Adidas. The club would also miss out on other crucial revenue streams, such as broadcast revenue, gate money and prize money.
