The transfer, valued at £49 million, includes £8.5 million in bonuses and £2.2 million in payments to the clubs that trained Martinez.
The Ajax player signs a contract until 2027 with an option to renew for a further season. Erik ten Hag, United's new coach and former Amsterdam boss, has been instrumental in bringing the deal to fruition.
The player knows United's new coach, Erik ten Hag, well, having won two Dutch Leagues and a Dutch Cup. Martinez has made 120 appearances for Ajax, a club he joined in 2019 from Defensa y Justicia for £6.3 million. The defender has also made seven appearances for Argentina's senior national team.

Lisandro Martinez will thus become the third signing for Erik ten Hag's United in this summer transfer window. Left back Tyrell Malacia (for whom United paid Feyenoord 15 million euros) and Christian Eriksen, who joined on a free move, are the two previous signings of the Old Trafford club in the current market.
