New information has come to light about Messi's renewal conditions demanded to FC Barcelona previous to the controversial burofax given by the argentine national team captain to Josep Maria Bartomeu. This was the start of the many movements that led to Messi's departure from Barcelona and his arrival at PSG.

According to El Mundo, Messi would have demanded a private plane to travel with his family on holidays to Argentina, around 12 million dollars just for signing the contract renewal, to regain the money lost during the pandemic at a 3% interest rate and to leave the famous recession clause which was around 710 million dollars.

While Barça's president at the time, Josep María Bartomeu accepted most of these conditions, the negotiations were allegedly trumped by Messi's surroundings and what went down from there is just recent history ending in Messi playing for PSG.

What is not probably known is that PSG offered the argentine striker the same salary as Barça, the fee he demanded to sign but as a ‘fidelity fee’, an extra fee for his father Jorge Messi, payments in crypto currency and of course the star player status in the squad and a 3 year contract, 2 fixed years and one conditional one.

Bartomeu's management was a key factor

FC Barcelona's fans despised Bartomeu on his way out of the club's presidency. His most controversial stain was in fact the lack of agreement's with the club's biggest player in their history. Bartomeu went as far as to say that he ‘would have liked to agree with Messi’ but with the upcoming elections on the club he'd understand that a new president would come.
