PSG's decision after Lionel Messi was not nominated to the Ballon d'Or

Despite this setback, Paris Saint Germain continues to have full confidence in the qualities and talent of the Rosarino. According to L'Equipe, the leadership of the Paris club have decided, once the transfer window is over, to sit down with the player's representatives to begin talks on renewing his contract.

"Paris have shown positive signs in recent weeks to discuss a new contract, as there is a one-year option at stake and both parties are in agreement," the newspaper shared. The leaders also plan to move to extend the stay of two other stars of the squad led by Christophe Galtier: Brazilian defender Marquinhos and Italian midfielder Marco Verratti.

Lionel Messi experienced a year of change last season after leaving Barcelona after practically a lifetime. In his first year in the PSG jersey, although he missed out on the Champions League (losing in the round of 16 to champions Real Madrid), he won Ligue 1. In total, he played 34 matches, scoring 11 goals (5 in the Champions League) and providing 15 assists (all in the domestic league).
