According to sources in Paris, PSG has expressed to Lionel Messi their wish to offer him one more year of contract. The Argentine star ends his contract with the French club in 2023. Now, the club's desire, not yet formalized in paper, is to extend his contract for another season, until 2024.

Messi's idea is to wait until after the World Cup. Because Qatar will be key to know how the future looks in all senses, and to assess Leo's mood and form. Seemingly, after the World Cup, many things regarding Messi’s future will be decided.

The club's conviction is mostly sporting related. They believe that Messi, after a first year of adaptation in which he had discreet numbers —for what he is used to—, can explode in a second year with many challenges: the World Cup, a fight for the Champions League, and all the other French titles.

Leo started training in Paris on Tuesday, July 5, after enjoying a vacation with his family in which he had a great time with friends like Luis Suárez and Cesc Fàbregas, his usual intimate companions and former teammates at Barça. Leo is already very focused on the beginning of the season. So much, that the Argentine superstar brought forward the start of training by almost a week.

The money Messi brings in for PSG

The sporting aspect supposedly being the main interest of PSG, the club also values the huge commercial impact and revenue that Leo attracts to the Parisian club, boosting image rights, marketing and exploitation of the stadium. As president Nasser al-Khelaïfi expressed, PSG has never generated so much revenue in one year, some 700 million euros. Lionel Messi has a lot to do with this huge profit.
