Finally, this Monday they announced the worst news, Gavi suffers "a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an injury associated with the meniscus". "In the coming days he will undergo surgical treatment. At the end of the intervention a new medical report will be provided", said in a statement.

Barcelona didn't specify precisely how long the young Gavi will be out. However, the first speculations made it clear that the midfielder will miss the rest of the club season, in addition to the Euro Cup and also the Olympic Games in Paris, taking into account that he would be out of the fields for around eight months.

However, there is some light in such a dark panorama for the blaugrana club. FIFA has stipulated in its ‘Player Protection Program’ that, whenever a footballer suffers an injury that exceeds 28 days of inactivity with his club while he is active with his national team, the parent entity undertakes to pay the club of that player an amount of €20,548 for each day that footballer is out.

The millions that Barça will receive due to the loss of Gavi

Gavi suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated meniscus injury, meaning he would be out for a long period. In this way, taking into account that he could be out for between six and eight months, in the first case Barcelona would receive €3.74 million from FIFA, while, if he reached eight months, it could reach almost €5 million.
