Kylian Mbappe is the youngest of Paris St-Germain's front three. He is also the highest paid. That means that the PSG team of the future will be built around the 23-year-old. As such, his recommendations regarding whom he would like to play with should be taken seriously, for they could have negative consequences for Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Mbappe would like to try a new strike partnership with the 20-year-old Hugo Ekitike, who was loaned from Stade de Reims with an option to buy as a long-term replacement for Neymar. Ekitike knew that he would struggle for game time with embarrassment of attacking riches possessed by PSG. The young man is confident that he can make his mark, though.
PSG have found their new striker in Hugo Ekitiké, the deal for the young Frenchman
So far he has only played 149 minutes in 9 matches, which is not enough to make an impression. His manager, Christophe Galtier, has explained that, “When you have the attacking trio that we have at PSG (Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe), that requires a lot of commitment and resilience and you have to keep going. When you play in place of one of them, there is a natural comparison.”
With Neymar suspended after collecting three yellow cards, Wednesday night's Champions League match is the perfect opportunity for the young forward to show what he can bring to PSG's frontline. Galthier admits that he is partially responsible for the loanee's lack of game time, so he may want to correct that in his lineup tomorrow evening.
Ekitike's case is also helped by the support he has in the dressing room in the shape of the club's highest earner and prized asset, Mbappe. Who better to make the case for Ekitike than the player PSG does not want to lose. Now that Galthier knows what his star player wants, will he dare defy him by starting Pablo Sarabia or Carlos Soler instead?
