Neymar has become the top scorer in the history of the Brazilian National Team after his last goal against Bolivia. The Al Hilal forward came back from injury and scored a double in the local team's victory at the start of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. These goals meant he scored 78 and 79, surpassing Pelé's 77.

Neymar has had key moments with the Brazilian National Team, his record includes the Confederations Cup, as well as the 2016 Olympic Games. However, the player's great desire is to achieve a World Cup, which he has not been able to achieve, being in 2014. The closest, when Brazil reached the semifinals.

"I'm very happy. I never imagined I would break that record. But I don't want to say that I'm better than Pelé just because I surpassed him in this record,” declared the forward after the win over Bolivia, in which he scored a double to break the mark of the world legend.

What else did Pele say?

“I just want to write my name in the history of the Brazilian National Team and thank my family, who is far away, and my teammates,” he added at the end of the match in the Amazonian city of Belém. The other goals for Brazil were scored by Rodrygo, also with a double, and Raphinha, while Víctor Ábrego scored the extra time goal for the Bolivian team.
