For the third time in the last four seasons, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich will square off in the UEFA Champions League competition, as the two powerhouse clubs are set to meet in the round of 16. Manuel Neuer has featured in each of Bayern Munich’s last three fixtures against PSG, including the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final, where he recorded a clean sheet. Now, Neuer is well aware of the challenge that Bayern Munich’s backline will face against PSG's attack.

“We’re looking forward to the round of 16 and know that we’re in for a tough task,” Neuer said. “We’ve had good and bad experiences against Paris. Our defensive performance will be important because they’ve got a forward line packed with big names. If we stand strong and bring our attacking power, then we’ve certainly got a chance of progressing. We’re looking forward to both matches. It’s an evenly matched tie. It’s a feature of the Champions League that you can come up against top opponents."

This is why Messi knows PSG will beat Bayern in the Champions League

"It’ll be important for us to be on the ball from the start.” Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe have anchored PSG’s attack this season, and no side has had much of an answer for the trio of star forwards. The German keeper is aware that defence will not be the answer to winning this one. Bayern cannot hope to park the bus with a low block; they have to go to the other end and outgun the Parisians.

A match fit for a final

Fortunately, the German team has European competition in its DNA, and managed to beat PSG in the most important edition of this match: a final. It is PSG who must once again prove their European credentials by beating one of the traditional powerhouses en route to the final. Mind you, PSG - Bayern is fit for a final itself but that is the nature of the Champions League: heavyweight clashes are not strictly reserved for the end.
